As a black person, especially a black male, if you’re not supporting Barack Obama’s presidential run you’re looked at in the worst light by not only black people but white people as well. “But you’re black,” they gasp if you say you’re voting for an Independent or even worse John McCain this fall. So it’s no surprise that Young Jeezy, who’s feeling the heat from what some consider statements he’s at least considering supporting the Arizona Senator in this fall’s election, he told Vibe Magazine, “No disrespect to my man Barack, but I f**ked with John McCain,”  issue a full press release stating his support for “the black man.”

Let’s face it, as an entertainer it is the “cool” thing to do to support a democrat, especially Obama. If Oprah does it, if Will Smith does it, if Scarlett Johansson does it, you as a celberity must or your toast.

When Jeezy told Vibe Magazine McCain, “He greeted me like a god,” who was surprised? Why wouldn’t he? McCain is undoubtedly going to continue the Bush Administrations tax cuts for the rich and Obama is undoubtedly going to raise taxes for the rich, similar to Bill Clinton in the 90’s. Rappers like Jeezy are rich. Don’t be surprised to have these guys and gals, make songs about Obama, stream his photo at concerts urging fans to vote for him, make videos with John Legend shouting “Yes We Can” at rallies, go on and on about how much they want this black man in office and still vote for McCain in the fall. Hey, it’s ultimately their pockets their protecting, right? We know how those exit polls can be misleading.
While some have done nothing but spit vitriol at the Snowman, I commend Jeezy if he’s one of those rich rappers doing just that, because he had the balls to say he has a choice. Black and white people alike treat the black vote as if we don’t have a choice. As if there isn’t anybody else to vote for because we must blindly support the half-white, half-African candidate—because we’re black. That’s bull. You always have a choice, and that fact that Jeezy seems to acknowledge that shows great judgment on his part whether you agree or not.

He may sound alot similar to Kenna but Tim William took Kenna’s thrashing, sex aganst new wave banger “Say Goodbye To Love” and smoothed it out. What he has created is equally as good as the orginal if not better.

The short film serves as an exploration into some of the South Africa’s environment within the context of the painting Faith47 has been doing. Although it’s short the film is poignant and inspiring. Album Review: “Feed The Animals” by Girl Talk http://artnouveaumagazine.com/blog2/2008/06/22/album-review-feed-the-animals-by-girl-talk/ http://artnouveaumagazine.com/blog2/2008/06/22/album-review-feed-the-animals-by-girl-talk/#comments Sun, 22 Jun 2008 04:43:57 +0000 kendrick daye Music. http://artnouveaumagazine.com/blog2/2008/06/22/album-review-feed-the-animals-by-girl-talk/

Girl Talk’s fourth album, “Feed the Animals” is near immaculate. Those familiar with Girl Talk will come to the album expecting the wide variety of samples, but for this disc it seems producer Greg Gillis used samples from seemingly everybody, expected and unexpected—M.I.A., Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, The Police, The Cure, Britney and Madonna, Rihanna and Queen—they’re all fare game. He even takes some of their most obscure tracks and mixes them in the party.

The highlight of the album is undoubtedly “Here’s The Thing” which at 1:05 features an amazing breakbeat remix of Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.” In the track he manages to mix in Mary J. Blige, Peter Bjorn and John, Shawty Lo, Elvis Costello, Nelly Furtado, NIN, & MC Hammer and still have an great track.

What I found so intriguing about the album is in the our iTunes three and a half minute single loving culture “Feed The Animals” exists as a rare ode to the dwindling form of creating an album. This is Girl Talk everybody can enjoy.

This saturday, Giant Robot will present Mossy & Glossy, a group show featuring new works by artists from the Pacific Northwest with excellent nicknames: Justin “Scrappers” Morrison, Candi “Snaggs” Hibert, and Mike “Le Merde” Kelly.

According to a press release, “The art of Scrappers reflects the outdoorsy environment of Portland, OR and his new pieces will preview his upcoming book about a logging crew, feral scouts, beards, and mushrooms. Seattle-based Snaggs was inspired by stuffed Nauga Monsters from the ’60s to become a felt artist. Her rainbow-colored body of work, which includes “paintings,” dolls, and pillows, has a retro modern style that combines the handmade quality of craft with the sensibility of clean design. Le Merde has gained a rabid following in the limited-edition figure scene with his molten and oozing but cute style.”

A reception for Scrappers, Snaggs, and Le Merde will be held from 6:30 to 10:00 on Saturday, June 21.

Artwork will be available to view and purchase online next week.
