The Upside Down Exhibit
Yoskay Yamamoto, a Californian artist (native to Japan) is all set for a solo exhibit at project:gallery in Los Angeles. His funky paintings will display an integration of traditional Japanese components with an American pop style. Yamamoto’s intent is to highlight an inner struggle with his alter ego “Inskay” in which “In” translates to “dark” in Japanese and “yo” means “light.” The collection is titled “The Upside Down” and will feature mostly acrylic on wood and paper. If you want to check it out, the address for project:gallery is 8545 Washington Boulevard, Culver City, California.

Slick of the Dissizit crew must like his bacon colorful. Music met Graffiti when the writer added some street art to Roger Water’s Coachella set. The pig flew over the crowd and looked amazing. Click for more pictures.

“M.I.A with a tan”
Let’s face it there is no such thing as a real DJ anymore. Finding one is like finding, say, a competent journalist or a brain possessing president. So everyone’s doing it, even super rich celebrity siblings with no real talent and nothing better to do, shot outs to Samantha Ronson (Mark’s sis, Lindsay’s lesbian lover) and Steve Aoki (Devon’s bro). I told you about Muxtape before, but now you can get in on all the action, groupies and recognition with the Hercules Mobile DJ. Ipod-like in its design and ease of use, its another way to turn $100 into thousands without little plastic baggies and a scale.

“Naked is the new Ugg boot“
If you are the type who believes the Abercrombie & Fitch catalog is art and American Apparel ads are just way too conservative, then you’ll love Ryan McGinley’s Soho exhibit “I Know Where Summer Goes” where the photographs aren’t the only things hanging.
If dressing like a walking M.I.A video is your thing, Cassette Playa has you covered with a new collection that will make Jackson Pollack barf.
Maybe Gnarl’s Barkley reads the Art Nouveau blog, or they could just be a Satanic cult, the industry’s oddest couple since Bobby and Whitney just released their latest album, in reverse! DOWNLOAD
Sorry Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report is booking the real talent. Michelle Obama last Tuesday, Hillary last Thursday. Grab your Ann Taylor, shoulder-padded paintsuits, Comedy Central is the new Lifetime.

Saul Williams Concert Part 2
We showed you guys some of the pictures from the Saul Williams concert the other day. Remember to check out Issue #4 which launches May 1st to see all of the dope shots we got. But, to hold you over we have something else. While waiting to get inside the building we caught up with a few Scene Kids and asked them what their expectations where for the show and here’s what they had to say.
Blake Lance & Matthew Williams
Blake: “Hopefully we get some good lyrics from Saul Williams, a lot of manual stuff from him, I don’t really want to hear the same stuff on the CD I’ve already heard that, but I love his stuff, I love Trent Reznor and I’m sure he did a good job producing it.”
Matthew: “I’m here for the atmosphere; I just want to have a good time.”
40 Mercer Street

“Good Morning Rihanna”
A year ago, it seemed all of New York was in a violent rage about a new building under construction in the historic and historically preservationist Soho. Don’t get mad too, it wasn’t that a homeless shelter was being built next to Marc Jacobs, or worse, a jail where Kid Robot flourishes, instead all the elitist fuss was about a new condo where a parking lot once stood. Little did all the artists and fashionistas know that the building was being designed by one of the premier architects of this century, Jean Nouvel, who just happens to be this year’s winner of the Pritzker Prize, which some call the Nobel of Architecture. Having designed countless award-winning buildings in art meccas and capitals across the globe, it was very fitting, similar to a designer having a flagship store in New York, for Mr. Nouvel to have his own fruit in the Big Apple.
40 Mercer Street is more than you would expect from a multi-million dollar architect of his echelon. Incorporating Soho’s trademark and historic cast iron elements with ultra-modern 22nd century sophistication, 40 Mercer doesn’t look out of place from the boutique storefronts nor does it upstage the area’s other architectural gems. This is a building so splendid that it has its own Wikipedia entry, probably among few others, and is being heralded as the “New Dakota.” If the international and academic acclaim isn’t enough, the building specs will surely make the heart under your Stussy shirt melt. Gift wrapped in accented glass, which changes color depending on the time of day, the apartments are able to fully open and let in all that polluted metropolitan air and sounds that acoustic engineers specially designed to keep out. The glass walls are completely motorized and allow you to change the room size at will, so your walls will literally disappear and create flexible MoMa-esque spaces. Future Banksys will be impressed by the art friendly 11 foot high ceilings and the manipulation of light and air throughout the building from private gardens, terraces and cabanas. Some units have their own pool, a rare city luxury, and if you are poor (maybe you just have a few million dollars), you can use the 50 lap pool as part of your exclusive membership in the building’s M40 Club. Add that to the free breakfast, underground parking, 24 hour concierge that does everything from tech support to personal shopping and we have a building that we all should aspire for. Say goodbye to the apartment they shared on Rent and hello to your new neighbors Mary Kate and Ashley.

Art is Everywhere: Little Five Points, GA
We’ve come up with a great idea. A campaign if you will–I mean it is Election season. We have these nifty flyers, 5,000 to be exact, and we’ve plastered the city of Atlanta with them. We’re looking to expand to other cities and countries all over the world. I’m talking Miami (My Home), NYC, Los Angeles, Tokyo, London, Berlin–hell Iraq would be great too. No city or country is too big or obscure for us.
We think getting pictures of these flyers in the most random places in a multitude of places would be a great ad campaign. What do you think?
Email me your name, address and city and we’ll send you over a couple of flyers to info@artnouveaumagazine.com. Here are some from Little Five Points, Atlanta, GA.
