Fashion and Surrealism
Guy Bourdin was one of the most notable fashion photographer in the 20th century, while working for Vogue magazine he bought surrealism to fashion photography. His strong themes of sex, death, violence, and glamour and fear evoke many new feelings. He is also responsible for influencing many artists from Madonna to David LaChappelle. Censorsh*t
Do you ever wonder why they have those Parental Advisory stickers on those potty mouthed cds? Well, back in the day before 1985 that is, there wasn’t one and listeners never knew what they were getting into until they bought the album, stuck it in their 8-tracks and tape players, and blasted the hell out of the album. But what made the change that has become the face of so many rap covers? The Parent Music Resource Center or the PMRC (ring a bell?) is the cause. Lead by Tipper Gore (yes that is Al Gore’s chick), she and three other Washington Wives lead the challenge against the music industry voting to censor the music of so many artists, including Prince, Twisted Sister and of course, Madonna. It is interesting to know that Dee Snider of the cross-dressing group Twisted Sister showed up at the meeting all man, with no make up or that extra long wig. The way he addressed himself was nothing that they would expect from a rock musician and he kicked ass as he said to Tipper Gore in regards to his song “Under the Blade,” the only sadomasochism, bondage, and rape in this song is in the mind of Ms. Gore.” and “Ms. Gore was looking for sadomasochism and bondage, and she found it. Someone looking for surgical references would have found it as well.” Spoken like a true musician. Even artists like Rage Against the Machine went totally out of their way in protesting against the PMRC by their dramatic concert (or the lack thereof) where they came out on stage with nothing on but ducktape across their mouths and letters on each of them that spelled out PMRC.

So why did I just type all of this? I am simply reminding you artists out there that once upon a time there were people trying to censor you and that we are lucky to have gotten just a stupid sticker. So go on ahead and scream, rap, or sing your ass off as you deserve it. Make sure you take advantage of your freedom of speech or someone else will.

10,000 B.C.–not this years 300
Roland Emmerich’s movie 10,000 B.C. is not this year’s 300, not by a long shot. The special effects and story are potential winners as Emmerich tries to find the magic he delivered in Independence Day and The Patriot. But, what fails is the tension in the audience’s efforts to allow themselves to suspend disbelief and buy-in to the story of cave men warriors and prehistoric creatures all inhabiting the same script.
The tension remains throughout and after a hopeful entry to the world of 10,000 B.C., the movie drags to a slow halt.

The line which features wallets and blazers and neutral colors like Brown, Black and gray as opposed to the funky colors we’re used to seeing from BAPE.
